The Best NYE Parties in Spokane 2019

New Year’s Eve is right around the corner! The opportunity to welcome a new decade is something that only happens a handful of times in our lives, and you probably won’t want to miss this one.

For many, New Year’s is a time to realign priorities that may have wandered over the course of the year. For others, the holiday is simply a time to reign in the New Year in style, starting things off with a toast and a midnight kiss for good luck. Whether you’re looking for a family friendly affair or the party of the decade, we’ve got your best 2019 NYE parties in Spokane, in no particular order!

Puttin’ on the Ritz (by the Spokane Symphony)

Where: The Historic Davenport Hotel

When: 9:00pm – 1:00am

Arguably one of the priciest parties in town, Puttin’ on the Ritz is sure to be worth it. Even at $150 a ticket, the event sold out last year, and may well do the same this year. You’ll want to be sure to get your tickets in advance. This event will feature live Big Band music, an Elvis impersonator, door prizes, a three-course meal, no-host bars, and a complimentary champagne toast at midnight. Admission: $150 online using the link above.

spokane nye partiesLil Sumthin’ Saloon’s Grand Opening and NYE Party

When: 9:00pm – 2:00am

This combo event is a great way to ring in the New Year while also supporting the opening of a new local business. Lil Sumthin’ Saloon is a Texas themed bar that will be officially opening on New Year’s Eve. To launch, they’re throwing a party unlike anything else you’ll find in Spokane this NYE.

In addition to live music, they’ll also be hosting a cowpoke costume contest (complete with a $100 prize and plaque on the wall for the winner). Uncle Nearest Distillery is partnering in the party, so expect creative cocktails to sip while you enjoy art displays from Latinx Artes. You’ll also receive a complimentary champagne toast at midnight. Admission: $5.

80’s New Year’s Eve

Where: Lucky You Lounge

When: 9:00pm – 12:00am

If you’re more Atari than XBox, then Lucky You Lounge has the perfect party for you. Get out your scrunchies and fishnet tank tops for this themed event – 80’s attire is encouraged. Make sure to bring your dancing shoes, because there will be an 80’s cover band playing all the classics. Admission: $10 online using the link above.

New Year’s Eve Fireworks at Riverfront Park

Where: Riverfront Park

When: 8:00pm – 12:00am

This family friendly event includes two fireworks displays and two light shows. The first light show will take place from 8:00-9:00pm, and will culminate in a 12 minute fireworks display. This is perfect for families with younger children who want to participate in the NYE celebrations in Spokane without totally throwing off sleep schedules. The Ribbon Skate Park will also have extended hours, staying open until 10:00pm on NYE.

There will be a second light show from 11:00-Midnight, with a fireworks display starting at midnight to celebrate the arrival of 2020. Admission: free.

Roaring 20s New Year’s Eve Party

Where: The Big Dipper Spokane

When: 7:30pm – 1:00am

Roaring 20s is a common theme in New Year’s parties this year (and with good reason!), but the party at The Big Dipper Spokane is sure to be one for the ages. The Big Dipper will have two bands – Random Generation and GS3, so dancing is definitely on the table (but not literally on the table, please). There will also be a no-host bar and free champagne toast at midnight. This is a limited space event, so be sure to reserve tickets in advance. Children are allowed at this event. Admission: $15 online using the link above.

Why and Where to Thrift Shop in Spokane

Thrifting for the Win: The 5 Best Places to Thrift Shop in Spokane

Thrift shopping is amazing! Thrifting isn’t just a fun, affordable way to find unique, high quality, and at times, downright quirky items. Thrift shopping is also good for the local economy and the environment! Don’t believe us? Consider these stats:

  • Goodwill’s sales topped $94 million in 2017, and thrift shopping has continued to grow over recent years, in spite of a “healthy” economy (which usually causes a downturn in thrift shopping)
  • In 2018, 1 in every 278 Americans received their job placement through Goodwill
  • The independent, “for profit” thrift store market is also growing, meaning more thriving small businesses – the backbone of the American economy!

Experts have cited a more eco-conscious shopping base, primarily driven by Millennials, for the increase in thrift shopping. For reference:

  • Goodwill recycled or resold 58 million TONS of goods in 2017
  • Salvation Army recycled or resold 4.3 million TONS of textiles in 2017
  • In 2015 the greenhouse gases from textile production were more than the emissions of all flights and maritime shipping combined
  • According to Hasan Minhaj, “If everyone bought one used item this year instead of new, it could save nearly 6 pounds of CO2 emissions – that’s equivalent to removing half a million cars off the road for a year.”

So, there you have it. Thrift shopping is fun (who doesn’t love the hunt?!), it’s good for the economy, and it helps to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions. That’s what we like to call a win-win-win! That’s why we’ve compiled this handy list of the 5 best places to thrift shop in Spokane (in no specific order):

The BEST Places to Share a Drink in Spokane This Holiday Season

The holiday season is a beautiful time in Spokane. The air is crisp, the scenery is snow-kissed, and your calendar is stuffed tighter with seasonal activities than a stocking after Santa swings by.

But if you’re looking to slow things down a bit, grab a drink, and catch up with friends and family visiting from out of town, be sure to check out this month’s Best Places list – The Best Places to Share a Drink Over the Holidays:

The Peacock Room at the Davenport Hotel

The Davenport is one of Spokane’s most iconic landmarks, and makes a nice little treat, whether you’re in town visiting or you live here full time. During the holiday season, the Davenport is home to the much-anticipated Christmas Tree Elegance event each year. As you wander through the spectacular trees and bid on your favorites, be sure to keep a few bucks in your pocket to stop by the Peacock Room inside the Davenport.

Known equally for its breathtaking ambiance and mouth watering menu, the Peacock Room is a must try. Rest your weary bones under the namesake peacock stained glass ceiling. Be sure to order a peppermint and chocolate martini to cap off the perfect holiday excursion.

Bistango’s Martini Lounge

spokane cocktail barsThe ambiance of Bistango’s warrants a trip in, even if the drinks weren’t incredible (but don’t worry, they are). Enjoy table seating in front of floor to ceiling windows looking out over downtown, or find your spot up at the bar. Black and copper designs in the bar top provide an elegant but warm feel, and candle lighting brings the effect home. If you prefer, warm up with a special someone in one of the red leather booths and look up into the synthetic starlight ceiling.

As for drinks, this is the best place to find unique holiday cocktails. Try one of their four signature holiday drinks, including the White Chocolate Peppermint Martini, the Red Velvet Martini (colored by a Bistango’s special secret sauce), Mrs. Claus (a vodka based eggnog drink with caramel), and the Spanish Coffee.

Bistango’s Spanish Coffee

If you want to impress your friends with a spectacular show, the Spanish Coffee is the way to go. They start with 151 and light it on fire – from here, your bartender will add seasoning and spices to create a colorful pyrotechnic display, finally ending by topping it off with hot coffee. The drink is served with a “burnt” raw sugar lip for a sweet but delicate finish.
